Hi, I’m Cody Burleson, a former software engineer turned writer. In addition to writing, I like independent computer game development, hiking, camping, and off-roading around the Colorado Rockies.

Welcome to my home base on the web - a blog, online notebook, sketchbook, scrapbook and mad software science lab. I often share what I discover and learn, so if you're into the stuff I'm into, you might find something you like here.

What I'm doing now

  • I am writing a nonfiction book about the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines in the Vietnam War. It goes by the working title, The Cage, which refers to Operation Beaver Cage, a key event in the story. For more information about the work, or to join the project's mailing list, see: The Cage.

  • I am studying computer game development using Unreal Engine. I hope to develop a little game sometime in the future, but for now, I am just learning how to use the software. I'll continue to post what I learn about Unreal Engine here.

  • I'm often tinkering with this site and the technology behind it. It was formerly a static site made with Ionic and Stencil.js, but I've recently converted it to be a Spring Boot Java app.

  • I've been exploring the great outdoors around our new home here on the Southern Front Range of the Colorado Rockies - camping, hiking, and off-roading in our Jeep with my wife, Karlisa, and our dog, Buddy. Recently, we camped in State Forest State Park and hiked the Ruby Jewel Trail.
