About

Hi, I’m Cody Burleson, a writer and freelance software engineer.
Welcome to my home base on the web - a blog, online notebook, sketchbook, scrapbook and mad software science lab. In addition to writing stories and software, I also like digital sculpting with ZBrush, hiking, camping, and off-roading around the Colorado Rockies. I often share what I discover and learn, so if you're into that stuff too, you might find something you like here.
What I'm doing now
-
I am writing a nonfiction book about the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines in the Vietnam War. It goes by the working title, The Cage, which refers to Operation Beaver Cage, a key event in the story. For more information about the work, or to join the project's mailing list, see: The Cage. The book will probably not be published until 2022 or 2023, but I have also written some stuff here about story craft and writing, some memoire, a couple of opinion pieces, and a few book reviews.

I am studying digital sculpting with ZBrush. I try to get at least a few hours of practice in per week. Right now, my learning strategy is simple: I'm just completing as many online tutorials as possible. I don't really have anything impressive to show yet, but I've written several posts about ZBrush.

I'm often tinkering with this site and the technology behind it. It was formerly a static site made with Ionic and Stencil.js, but I've recently converted it to be a Spring Boot Java app. Lately, I've been exploring the addition of Mongo DB for the backend and React for the front-end. Over the years, I've written several posts about software development.
