Eleven Mile Canyon

Photograph taken at 11 Mile Canyon in Lake George, Colorado. It's not much more than an hour's drive from Manitou Springs and it's one of my favorite places to play in the whole state. A river runs 11 miles through a beautiful rocky canyon and a dirt road runs aside it the whole way. It's about as quintessentially "Colorado" as it gets - extraordinary views like this throughout the entire canyon. I'm not any good at catching trout, but you can always see them in the water. There's a couple of great hiking spots that summit to rewarding views. Tent camping in the canyon is great if you can get a good spot, but there is also a lot of nearby places for boondocking in the National Forest.
